Fichera makes verbal commitment

Alamogordo Tiger senior Christopher Fichera has verbally committed to play football for the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds next fall.

Fichera will attend Eastern New Mexico on an academic scholarship as a freshman and go through the rigors of college football as well. He choose ENMU over three other schools in part because of the academic scholarships available to him and the competition ENMU and the Lone Star Conference offers.

“They told us they save all their scholarships for upperclassmen ... they are going to give me a chance to play this year and if I do good, I’ll be put on a full athletic scholarship,” the just-graduated senior said.
“Since they don’t have a lot of money for freshmen but they wanted him to play for them, they earmarked a lot for academic money for him as long as his academics were up to snuff, which they are,” father Chris Fichera said. The senior graduated with a grade-point average near 3.8.
